flash repair

the guts of a speedlite
A little while ago, my speedlite 430ex was broken at a wedding. It wasn’t a big deal because we had a back up and could continue on with no delay, but the repair shop wanted $75 to fix it. I told them I’d check out what other options were out there and get back to them. I called up Canon and it turns out the part actually costs only 3 dollars! And with my background in tinkering with electronics, I was able to repair it in under a half an hour.

Autumn

As many of you know, my fiancée is finishing up her undergrad at Trinity Western University. We see each other just about every weekend. This weekend we were both very busy, so we meet up just for a day on Sunday. We decided that she’ll drive south and I would drive north until we meet in the middle somewhere. Well, there was an especially long line at the border so we ended up meeting in Bellingham!

It’s a beautiful time of the year when the weather gets cold and the leaves all change color at the same time. The drive up to Bellingham is beautiful.

Below is a photo of Jacqi - I’m a lucky guy to be marring such a great girl!

The New Beautydish

john & natalie

Well, the new beautydish attachment for my Speedlite 430ex has had its inaugural use. It was a big success. I shot a couple’s portrait as well as a Senior portrait. They loved the photos. You can see one of them above – notice the way the light falls off in the back and also the catch lights in their eyes.
