Heather & Clay - Skagit County Tulip Fields

Had a sweet e-sesh with Heather and Clay this week. I’ve grown up around the skagit tulip fields most of my life but haven’t spent much time out there. That said, I was excited when Heather called up and wanted to spend an afternoon shooting some engagement photos in the fields. Heather and Clay were super fun to shoot and made my job so easy as they were all lovey-dovey and having fun with each other. The weather was all over the place which was kind of freaky, but that’s the how the Pacific NW is this time of year.

Ratatouille Birthday Party

My son Baron and I have birthdays two weeks apart so I thought it would be fun to share a party before baby boy number two (Roman) is expected to arrive sometime in May. We had a bit of a scramble to get the house ready for guests as my wife Ashley recently took a crowbar to the kitchen cabinets. All that to say we were putting in extra hours sheet-rocking, texturing and painting the walls (I must say that Ashley actually did most of the work!! I had a pretty busy work week and she stepped up. I was up late a few nights with the heavy lifting and moving but it’s enjoyable once it’s all said and done). By the way, we found the best cups ever in San Diego (see above photo).

Rita & Blake | Downtown Portland Engagement Session

Smokin!  This little urban e-session with Rita and Blake was awesome.  First of all, they’re a really fun couple and its obvious they have a huge heart for others.  They told me that they came to me because they wanted engagement photos that weren’t cliché and really showed their personalities.  They also really liked that urban candid personal feel in many of my images. Rita explained to me when we first met that she had essentially been raised by her church family, friends, and boarding schools and wanted some images that truly showed her personality as a young woman so she could send the online slideshow to her family back in Missouri and say “Here I am as a grown up on my own, this is my life”.  Similarly, she wanted to introduce Blake and his fun and loving personality through these photos.  Wow.  I was blown away with this responsibility. And excited.  I love it when I see purpose and ambition in people’s lives and its awesome to be a part of that.

A couple other fun things to note about our shoot:  Rita rides TriMet everywhere and we thought it would be fun to get some shots on the bus or max downtown.  It was awesome just seeing them get on and off the bus as she chatted it up with all the drivers on a first name basis.  We met at the Chinese Gardens and goofed around in that area for a little bit and then walked on up to the Ace Hotel… our destination?  Their Photobooth.  Urban shoots like this are like a playground for me as a photographer.  Check out the slideshow for more: http://gabrielboone.com/showit/rita/

My Favorite Image from Today

Bellingham Real Estate Photography

I was shooting a local Bellingham home today and I happened to see some small birds on the roof. They were too rad to pass by so I snapped a few shots. Sure, typical Real Estate Photography isn’t Black and White, but as soon as I saw these birds I envisioned this image. Enjoy.
