Jacqi’s Birthday

We’ve been traveling and shooting so much lately, so it is just now that I’ve found time to share some images from my wife Jacqi’s charming beach picnic birthday party on Sauvie Island.  She is beautiful and wise, and I’m so happy to be married to her.  Also, she just started a Doctorate program in Psychology, which amazes me.  It really is a perfect and natural fit for her so needless to say she’s doing great in the program.  I call it sleuth camp.  Beyond that, she amazes me the way she invests so deeply in relationships and genuinely cares for people.  So celebrating her life and the way she lives with her closest friends was perfect.

As our friends arrived we all enjoyed cocktails and appetizers.  We settled down and shared lots of laughs and spent time talking and eating Jacqi’s favorite, her’s dad’s meatball recipe!  After dark the lanterns were lit and over campaign and cake, we all toasted to my beautiful wife.

The guest list was a group of her closest friends who also helped me pull it all off.  I also had some timely help from Common Wealth who specializes in vintage event rentals in Portland.

p.s. I shot the majority of these photos on my hand-me-down Nikon - the same camera that our Grandpa has photographed our family with since the 60’s.  He gave it to me in jr. high, which was a huge stepping stone in my love for photography.  You’ll find it makes a guest appearance further down.

We served ’sauvie island iced teas’ in mason jars which was a peach and ginger concoction I spend the week prior perfecting.  And that’s a blanket from my childhood from my Grandma Emmy.

Warby Parker Sunwear Launch at Lizard Lounge

In January we photographed Warby Parker’s west coast launch party at Lizard Lounge.   This past Tuesday we photographed their Sunwear Launch at Lizard Lounge and let me tell you, their shades are slick!  If you haven’t seen them already, you can peep them on warbyparker.com.  There’s a pair of Thatchers in Revolver Matte Black in the mail for me as I type!  Plus…Warby Parker partners with non-profits, such as RestoringVision.org, to deliver one pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair that they sell.

The Mentoring Project

Ty and I recently photographed a dessert and music night at Donald Miller’s house for The Mentoring Project. If you didn’t remember, Ty and I have been paired up as Mentor and Mentee through The Mentoring Project for almost 4 years now. When we first met back when he was in 5th grade it was awesome finding out we’re both way into music and big Halo fans. Back then we would skate under the covered area after school at Buckman Elementary and climb on things.

Ty’s going to be going into highschool this year and that blows my mind. These days we mostly grab coffees or go for a walk and catch up. Another cool thing we’ve found out is that Ty has a great eye for film and photography. Every once in a while I get a job that is perfect for having Ty come with and to give him a glance behind the scenes as a professional photographer. Last year we shot the Portland Volunteer Challenge at School House Supplies with Portland Mayor Sam Adams and Terry Porter.

This event was in the home of best-selling Author Donald Miller, with a very intimate performance by Sara Groves

Warby Parker Launch Party at Lizard Lounge

We were recently asked to photograph the Warby Parker west coast launch party at Lizard Lounge.  We love Warby Parker and Lizard lounge.  Warby Parker partners with non-profits, such as RestoringVision.org, to deliver one pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair that they sell.   Also, they’re styles are slick and intentionally very affordable.
